El Paso, Tex, Jan. 31.—Numerous
encounters between Mexican
federal troops and rebel forces
have occurred recently, according
to advices received here today from
Chihuahua City, quoting government
reports.

Near Villa Corzo, Chiapas, more
than 500 rebels, commanded by
Gen. Tiburcio Fernandez, are said
to have fought for six hours against
federal troops and eventually killed
or dispersed them.

The rebel chief, Luis Mendez, operating
around Tlazazalca, Michoacan,
was killed in a fight with federal
forces and his head sent for
exhibition to the city of Zamora,
the same state. At Uruapan, also
in Michoacan, four rebel colonels
and ninety of their followers surrendered
to the authorities, it is reported.

Col. Juan Zuazua, of the federal
army, was killed in a battle east of
San Luis Potosi.

At Chesta China, Nuevo Leon,
Andre Almazan, rebel leader, with
fifty men, held the place for several
hours and later escaped to the hills
with considerable booty, according
to the reports.

Filogonio Mendoza, rebel, surrendered,
with more than 500 men
at Pachuca, Hidalgo, leaving that
section free from rebels.

On the railroad from Mexico
City to Vera Cruz, rebels under the
command of Higinio Aguilar, dynamited
a train carrying supplies for
the earthquake victims.
