Virginia State Cagers Rack Up 16-and-4 Mark

PETERSBURG, Va. The Virginia State College basketball Trojans, finishing in second place in the CIAA race this year, have made a steady climb up the ladder in the past few years. From a mere 11 wins out of 22 contests in 1952 the aggregation, under Coach Shelton Matthews, pushed to a 16-4 record during the past season, and at one time had a string of 12 consecutive victories going.

Three Trojan seniors bowed out of the picture with the final game of the season. They are Leonard George, 6-3 forward, from Philadelphia, Penna.; Walter Massie, 6-4 center and rebound ace from Braddock, Penna.; and Clyde Basham, 6-4 center from Roanoke. Massie and Basham were the 1954 co-captains.
