Full Text

We observe with pleasure, says the Richmond Whig, that District Meetings or Conventions are about to be held almost in every quarter of the Commonwealth. The enthusiasm of the people—their processions, &c.—their frolicksome exhibitions of Log Cabins with the string of the latch hanging out, and their hard cider, with gourds, are gall and wormwood to the Federal clique. We say to our friends, go ahead—Dose the Federalists to their hearts content.—The more they rail, the more vigorously do you ply them with hard cider and Log Cabins, never forgetting the string of the latch and the gourds. You may rest assured you are not far wrong, when your conduct excites the disapprobation of the Federalists. They thought in the beginning to kill off the old Farmer of the North Bend by ridiculing him as the Log Cabin and Hard Cider candidate. Teach their official insolence a lesson, which will be of service to them through life. Dish up the Hard Cider and Log Cabins to them on all occasions, and let them know that honest poverty contracted in the service of the Republic is disreputable to no man, and that the People of this country can appreciate virtue, though clad in rags, and are not too proud to be grateful to a benefactor, although he may be poor.
