Encouraging Reports from the Fifth Congressional District.
Portland, Me., August 29.—Accounts received here to-day from the Fifth District are of the most encouraging character, and make Pike's election almost a certainty. A gentleman writes from Hancock County, which gave nearly 1,000 Republican majority in 1868, that the county is sure for Kimball by 500 majority. Accounts from other sections of the State are hopeful for handsome gains for the reform party. "I am certain that there are many men in this State who have heretofore voted with the Republicans who now intend to vote for Greeley. Yet, for fear of the remarks of neighbors and friends, they keep this intention a secret from everybody."
