As the result of an automobile accident on the Beverly-Elkins road Thursday evening about 9 o'clock, Fred Lewis, of Glennville, is the defendant of two $10,000 damage suits filed in circuit court here by Carl Chilgren, father of Gene Chilgren, 15-year-old youth who was injured in the accident.
E. L. Maxwell is attorney for Mr. Chilgren in the actions. One suit for $10,000 is filed for the injured youth and another in the same amount for the father in consideration of expense incidental to the injuries sustained by the son.
Lewis' difficulties in Randolph county seem many for in addition to the two suits against him he is under bond to appear before Magistrate Cam Hart to answer to a charge of driving an automobile while intoxicated. He was taken into custody by First Sergeant Moore and Troopers Wallen and Sandridge, of the Elkins detachment of state police, soon after the accident. It was stated at Squire Hart's office that bond in the amount of $500 was required. The Chilgren youth remains a patient at a local hospital.
Lewis and a Captain O'Brien were driving toward Elkins when the accident occurred. The youth is said to have been knocked to the roadway by the car which turned into a fence, then around and into a bank on the opposite road. A wheel is said to have broken from the automobile.
