Full Text

The city council of La Crosse believes in publicity in matters concerning the assessment of property in that city for purposes of taxation. After the assessing is completed, the council causes to be published in the official city newspapers the result of the assessment in figures, showing not only the current assessment on each individual description of real estate, but the assessment of the preceding year so that each owner of real property may compare the assessments and note any raising or lowering of the assessment. If he has any objections to the assessor's work he may go before the board of review and make them known.

It might be equally interesting and valuable if personal properties were treated the same way. The assessment is then made up into pamphlet form and sold to anybody who desires one, at 15 cents the copy.
