When Practical Joke
Turns to Tragedy

PITTSBURGH, N.H. (A')--Three men drowned yesterday when a practical joke turned to tragedy.

The victims were David Doolan, 39, William Cantin, 65, and Wilfred Marsh, 47.

Doolan and Cantin were the fathers of eight children each.

Napoleon Scott, 67, who was rescued after clinging to an overturned boat more than an hour, said he, Cantin and Doolan were fishing when Marsh hailed them from shore and asked for a ride across the pond.

After picking up Marsh, Scott said, Marsh told them he was a game warden and asked to see their fishing licenses. Scott said a scuffle ensued and the boat capsized.

Conservation officials said that Marsh is not a member of the Fish and Game Department.
