Torch Light Procession.

The Fire Department paraded last evening, with illuminated signals and fully equipped with torches, and marched through Main street escorted by a band of martial music. Viewed from a distance, while counter-marching, their lights fanned and waving in the breeze, the effect produced was extremely picturesque and imposing--and occasionally afforded, when the breeze was the stiffest, a practical exemplification of the adage, "My light is none the less for lighting my neighbors." For ourselves, we cannot avoid congratulating a trifle on the present condition and qualifications of this department of public safety,--a condition which has not been attained without a very considerable individual outlay on the part of those composing it.

We hope, ere long, to be regaled with a repetition of the display of last evening--another emanation of the ornamental from the useful.
