Full Text

The first article that has caught our eye on perusing these papers, is not a little ludicrous. It is the annunciation by the Governor of the Province of Corrientes (about 300 miles up the River from Buenos Ayres,) of the appointment of M. Louis Liotard, a Frenchman, to the high office of teaching the inhabitants to make sweetmeats, sugar candy, liqueurs, &c. at a salary of $1500 per annum! The decree however provides 'that if illness prevent him attending to his profession, the salary to be stopped during that time, and if he should die, (which God avert says the decree,) neither his widow nor relations are to come upon the pension list, or receive one real from the Government of Corrientes.'—N. Y. Com.
