Full Text

The Supreme Court of the District of Columbia has decided the appeal in Guiteau's case against him, and confirmed the judgment below. Under this order, Guiteau will be hung on the 23rd of June, unless President Arthur interferes with the sentence which is by no means probable. Guiteau has published an address to the American people, in which he says he wants an unconditional pardon or nothing, and that if he does not get that, that the wrath of Heaven will be visited on this nation and the judges who have condemned him. It will always be an unsolved problem as to whether Guiteau is crazy or not. The judgment of the great mass of the people of the United States is, that he ought to be hung, and there is very little doubt that President Arthur will respect the will of the people in this respect.
