Navy Declares Properties Here Need $600,000 in Maintenance

A report by U. S. Navy inspectors stating that facilities turned over to the municipality require maintenance exceeding $600,000 has recently been submitted to local officials.

This estimate has been challenged by Authority officers, who point out that many of the items listed in the report were virtually written off as worthless before the Navy departed.

Governor Alexander, who met with the Authority on Wednesday, discussed this matter and it was agreed that the Superintendent of Public Works would prepare a separate report on the subject.

The Governor also requested that in accordance with law the Commissioner of Finance make an audit of the Authority's accounts and report to the Governor and Council, and publish a financial statement and consolidated balance sheet.
