Style Notes
Browns promise to hold first place among high-style fall colors, and are stressed in clear pure rich tones, including, in the darker register, a dark burnt brown, tobacco, a lively Rhuri brown, a chocolate shade called "fudge brown" and a very dark brown known as licorice. Bisvayne and bark tan are two other new rich browns featured in fabrics, shoes and handbags. Complementing these various browns are new beige tones such as hemp, chamois and doe beige. Also closely related to the browns are the brown taupes, orangy amber shades and gold, including orange laque - a brilliant rust tone - and copper gold.

Dark bronze greens are important among fall colors, particularly for sports. There is also a medium green of slightly bluish almond cast known as Arcady. Dundee green - a dark true green - and Fostgreen - in the same range but a lighter version - are other new shades to be seen this fall.

Red shades are important, particularly those that are clear, pure and bright, including cranberry, raspberry and currant shades. There are rose shades with bluish tints, including rose ruby, mulberry and tokay red. Corsican red and fez red are reds with a more yellowish cast and oriental flavor - both favored for fall, as is also tomato bisque - a new bright red.

Skirts are straight and slim necklines are high - waists are bloused - sleeves are straight or full at the elbow - and coats are three-quarters and straight. Large buttons -- very large buttons -- are to be seen on smart fall frocks and suits - these oftener than not of wood or composition.

Reddish dark browns in rather dark shades are high-style colors for fall - also an orangey bright terra cotta in the lighter register of rust shades. A new moss green will be important among new shades for sportswear, and the Chinese influence among reds is strong.
