(Tuesday's Herald)

Nogales noses will be pointed toward the Circle Z Ranch next Saturday, when the people of Santa Cruz county and southern Arizona will celebrate the 4th o' July with a big rodeo, county picnic and fiesta.

Late in the evening of the same day and the next day Sunday, those same noses will be pointed toward Nogales where thousands of people are expected to spend the week-end on the border.

The program for the Independence Day celebration at the Circle Z ranch, near Patagonia, calls for a complete exhibition of western sports such as bulldogging, steer tying, calf tying and bronco busting.

Prizes will be awarded and some of the best known cowboys in Arizona and Sonora will compete.

At noon a free barbecue will be given. Ten beeves have been butchered and placed in cold storage and the night before the big celebration will be roasted to a turn. Families will take baskets to the celebration, well loaded with the viands of home cooking, and the banquets will be spread under the shade of the towering oaks on the famous guest ranch.

Barrels of ice water will be ready and the day is expected to be one of the greatest in the history of the county.

The big celebration this year is expected to attract over 5000 people. In 1929 4000 attended the event, but due to the more comprehensive program this year a larger crowd is anticipated. An admission charge will be made at the gate, which will entitle those who enter the privileges of the entire show.

The recent heavy rains, which mean prosperity to farmers and cattle raisers, has spread optimism throughout the county and the Independence jubilee this year will be one of smiling faces and jovial disposition.

The fiesta will be colorful, with western cowboys, clad in full regalia, mounted on swift steeds exulting in the sports they love:
the glistening sun will sparkle through the heavily leafed trees and dance on the trickling waters of the Sonoita, a stream which runs through the ranch.

City dwellers will mingle with the folks of the county side and the aggregation will be one of joy and happiness.

Lee Zinsmeister. Owner of the Circle Z ranch and general chairman of the celebration. said to day: "I believe that the 1931 celebration will be the greatest in the history of the city. We have everything in shape. Committees have worked hard and unless something unforeseen occurs the crowd will be the largest ever to assemble together in this county. The fiesta will be one of those old fashioned, get together meetings.crammed with much activity."

Zinsmeister added that the rodeo program this year was complete in every detail and visitors would see a wonderful show

The Independence Day celebration this year is sponsored by the Patagonia Civic association and the Nogales chamber of commerce.

At night a dance will be given at the Patagonia opera house under the auspices of the Patagonia fire department with Peltier's orchestra furnishing the music for the occasion.
