THIRTY-SEVENTH CONGRESS.

WASHINGTON, May 21.
SENATE.
Mr. Grimes presented a petition of the widow of Gen. C. F. Smith for a pension.
Mr. Grimes, from the Naval Committee, reported a joint resolution of thanks to Captain Farragut, and officers and men under his command, which was passed.
Mr. Fessenden reported back a bill amendatory to the Post Office Appropriation bill. Passed.
Mr. Wright offered a resolution that the Military Committee inquire into the expediency of reporting at an early day a bill providing a suitable bounty for soldiers enlisted for three months and one year; also for pensions for widows of soldiers who die in the service. Adopted.
HOUSE.
Mr. Sedgwick introduced a bill providing for raising certain sunken wrecks in Hampton Roads.
Mr. Ancona of Pennsylvania offered a resolution, the Senate concurring, that the House adjourn on Wednesday next to the 2d of June.
On motion of Mr. Rollins of New Hampshire, it was tabled—78 against 46.
The Senate bill, removing all disqualifications of color in carrying mails, was tabled—83 against 43.
The confiscation bill was taken up.
Mr. Voorhees attacked the financial policy of the Government as unsound, unwise and ruinous.
The shameless extravagance makes every lover of his country bow his head with shame.
