Council Grants Permission to Water Company to Lay Mains. General News of the Mill Town.
The city council met in regular semi-monthly session on Tuesday evening and transacted considerable business. The petition of the water company to lay a water main on several of the streets of the city which was presented to the council at the last meeting night was taken into consideration and an ordinance passed permitting the company to lay the line. The granting of the franchise was considered favorably by the president of the company. The fixing of the levy was the next important matter and after much discussion it was fixed for the ensuing year at 25 cents, the same as last year. Other important matters were considered among them being the rejecting of the proposition of the Wheeling Associated Charities to operate a branch office in this city as it was found that the city charter did not call for any appropriation for such amounts as would have to be forthcoming.
