Full Text

It may afford great consolation to the friends to the English prisoners with Tippoo, that notwithstanding a series of unparalleled hardships, most of them are alive: that the British army has received several letters from the captives to that effect; and that Lord Cornwallis has resolved to insist, in the most positive manner, on their immediate release. Tippoo, understanding very well that the detention of prisoners is a breach of a former treaty, affects to deny that he has power; and insinuates that years have elapsed since they all paid their debt of nature.

Lieutenant Fonblanque and Cornet Hoare who were taken with the unfortunate General Mathews, have been restored to liberty and their countrymen, having been confined in the fortress of Nundycoudath, which place was taken by assault on the 3d of April by a strong detachment of the main army.
