On the 6th instant the Great Duke of Tuscany arrived in this city from Florence, and went to his palace called Villa Medici. His arrival was immediately made known to the College of Cardinals in the Conclave, whereupon, in the evening, M. Rezzonico, Maggior Domo of the palace, and actual Governour of the Conclave, was sent by them to compliment his Royal Highness, who was also complimented by the Ambassadors, Foreign Ministers, the Roman Princes, Nobility, Prelates, &c. whom he received with great affability, especially those invested with the order of the Golden Fleece, many of whom he daily admits to his table.
On the 8th instant the usual present, consisting of eatables and drinkables, was carried to his palace by 142 men, 130 of whom were from M. Rezzonico, Maggior Domo of the palace, and 12 from M. Casali, Governour of Rome.
A most magnificent present for his Royal Highness has also been prepared by the Cardinals in the Conclave, consisting of a large cross of gold fixed upon a pedestal, with several figures and instruments representing the crucifixion of our Saviour, all in gold, weighing about 16 pounds, some pictures of tapestry and mosaic, and six volumes in folio, richly bound, containing the prints of Rome.
