The separate coach bill, passed by the last legislature, went into effect on all roads in Tennessee on the 12th. The Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis railway run a coach exclusively for colored people at the front of the train. In it no smoking was allowed and it was equal to the other coaches on the train in appointments and comfort. The law is construed that if the remainder of the train is overcrowded the conductor may put white passengers in the coach, but not otherwise. The second coach may be used for smoking, if there is no objection from the passengers, otherwise no smoking will be allowed except in Pullman cars. The Louisville & Nashville railway system will use partitioned coaches for white and colored.
