Dr. C. B. Christian Heads Territorial Division Of Community Chest Drive Set First Meeting At YWCA Friday Night

Dr. C. B. Christian, well known Farish Street Physician has accepted the chairmanship of the Territorial Division of the Jackson Community Chest drive, which starts on October 15. and ends on October 31st, it was announced this week.

The Territorial Division under Dr. Christian's direction will have charge of the work of raising money for the Community Chest among the negro citizens of the city.

In accepting the chairmanship of the Territorial Division Dr. Christian has set his first meeting, for the purpose of getting the organization in shape, for Friday night September 28th at 7 o'clock, at the Bettie C. Merino Branch YWCA on North Farish Street.

The work of raising the money to support the Community chest is carried on by volunteers, and many volunteers will be needed to carry on the work which starts on October 15th. Dr. Christian expressed the hope and belief that those who sense the needs and importance of the Community Chest program will be present at the meeting Friday night to give a hand in the drive.

Speaking of the importance of the drive and the effects of the work of the Community Chest on Negro life in the city. Dr. Christian said, I have accepted the chairmanship of the Territorial Division of the Community Chest Drive, October 15-31, without any degree of reluctance because of the importance of the drive to the 17 agencies operating under the Community Chest. Our YMCA will receive $10,000, our YWCA $10,000; around half of the $80,000 alloted to the family service will go to Negroes in need; Boy Scouts will receive around $7,500 and the girl scouts a similar amount. Of course these agencies will receive this only if the over all goal of the chest is met.
