Full Text

Kentucky Senator.--A resolution has been brought in for proceeding to the election of senator; but it still sleeps upon the table. The Coalition have taken the alarm. The N. Intelligencer says, that "Private advices from the Seat of Government of the State of Kentucky, leave it a matter of doubt how the election, depending there, will result, though probably in favor of a friend of Mr. Clay. It is not impossible, from what we hear of the difficulty which appears to attend the selection of candidates, that no choice at all may be made at the present session, and the election be devolved on the next Legislature."--The Louisville Advertiser "still anticipates the election of a Jackson Senator. We know we have not been deceived as to the number of pledged members : and that, with their votes, faithfully given in obedience to the will of their constituents, the friends of the administration cannot be defeated in the choice of Senator."--A letter which it publishes from Frankfort, of the 10th, says : "Upon one thing you may rely--we will have a Jackson Senator."--Another: "We will have 4 or 5 Jackson, and no Clay candidates for the Senate."--The Baltimore Republican inclines to the belief, that "No anti-Jackson man can be elected, except Mr. Clay himself, and he, by but a very small majority." Which would be so gross an outrage on the Rights of Suffrage, that, like the victory of Pyrrhus, it would undo him.--It would, moreover, be so strongly in contrast with the conduct of Gen. Jackson, that it would expose Mr. Clay to the severest criticism. When J. was spoken of for the Presidency, he modestly withdrew into retirement: But Mr. Clay would push forward to the scene of bustle, intrigue, and electioneering.
