STRANGER TAKEN IN.
Came to Salt Lake and Fell In With a Sharper.
C. H. Nelson, a stranger in the city, fell into the hands of a clever thief Friday evening, and as a result of the "fall" he is now mourning the loss of a gold watch and chain and $5 in cash.
Nelson came in from the north Friday, and being a stranger he immediately started out to get acquainted and see the sights of the city. He had not gone far when a man whom he describes as "short" and "thick" met him, and learning that he was a stranger he very kindly proffered to show Nelson around.
The two took in everything that was to be seen until bedtime. Then it was that the short, thick man plied his graft. Nelson inadvertently informed his newly-made friend that he had not secured a room, and the latter, jumping at the chance, insisted that Nelson accept his hospitality and share his room with him at the Lincoln house.
Nelson consented, but when he awoke yesterday morning he found that his "friend" was gone and a few minutes later he discovered that his watch and chain and $5 were also gone. There was no trace of man or stuff. He reported the matter to the police and gave them a description of the man.
