In another column will be found the proceedings of a mass meeting of the citizens of our town held on Monday night last. The meeting was called, as it will be seen by a reference to our report, for the purpose of establishing the future grade of Main street. At the adjourned meeting held on Tuesday evening, the report of the County Surveyor, setting forth a plan for the grade, and estimating the probable cost thereof was unanimously adopted. We have reason to think that the street will, in a short time, be improved in accordance with the established grade.
With the Main street one hundred feet wide and properly graded, the town will present a much handsomer appearance when rebuilt than formerly. The transaction of business will also be greatly facilitated, while there will be but little danger of our town being again so entirely destroyed by fire.
