Eight Questioned In Clanton Gunfight

CLANTON, Ala. - (INS) - Eight Negroes were questioned Sunday night about a spectacular seven-hour gunfight in Clanton, Ala., in which a Negro was killed, his pregnant wife shot in the stomach, and five white officers wounded.

Authorities said the "small war" which started Saturday night and ended early Sunday involved moonshine activities rather than an outbreak of racial violence.

The dead man was identified as Willie Dunnigan, 46. His wife, Louise, 41, wounded in the stomach, was reported in fair condition.
