SURGICAL OPERATION.—A few days since a most important and interesting surgical operation was performed by Professor Baxley, assisted by Professors Gibson, Annan, and Jennings, at the Hospital of the Washington Medical College of Baltimore, in the presence of the medical class in attendance at that Institution. The operation was for the restoration, or rather making of a new nose. The patient was a German, whose nose had been eaten off by scrofulous ulceration, previously to his emigrating to this country, causing the face necessarily to be very deformed, and giving to his expression of countenance a most forbidding aspect. The operation was effected by cutting from the forehead the skin necessary to make the new nose. This was brought down and most skilfully adjusted so as to form a perfect feature, which a critical observer could not distinguish from the original organ. The wound in the forehead was then closed by drawing the skin together, so that it will heal entirely, and leave scarcely a scar.
