That he sailed from Bristol in June 1765, on board the Sloop William, for the Coast of Africa, John Wetcot, master, where they continued 18 months, purchasing slaves for themselves and a Brig, and afterwards proceeded for St. Kitts;
that soon after they had left the coast, the Captain for some reason beat and knocked down a seaman named Stephen Porter;
that the next night between 11 and 12, the said Porter and Richard Hancock murdered the captain and mate with a broad ax, when asleep;
that the sloop was afterwards cast away on the isle of Man, and the slaves were sold to the Portuguese for fifty dollars a head.
