Full Text
We knew it. Because Memphis and Vicksburg have elected Democratic municipal officers a great howl of victory is sent up from the camps and wigwams of Democracy all over the country, and one would think from the noise, that the party of dead issues had realized their brightest hopes and gained control of all the fat offices in the nation. We never knew men so easily enthused by such insignificant success in the off-year of politics as the American Democrats. Their hopefulness is only exceeded by the regularity of their defeat whenever they come before the country on a square issue with Republicans.
Our readers will notice by perusing the proceedings of the Republican Congressional Convention of the Third District that Hon. C. B. Darrall, the Chief's candidate, has received a renomination for Congress, by acclamation. This is what we anticipated. Republicans are ever ready to endorse those officials who have served the people faithfully. Mr. Darrall's election is certain, and he will poll more than a mere party vote.
