Full Text

In the Nick of Time.

Upon returning from church yesterday noon S. C. Gale found his residence at the corner of First avenue south and Fourth street filled with smoke. Investigating he discovered that a chimney had burned out in the absence of the family and some of the woodwork in the attic had ignited. He called in E. A. Harmon, a neighbor, and together they endeavored to squelch the impending conflagration. In the meantime some one turned in an alarm and a few minutes later the fire department was on hand. The flames were readily put out by the small extinguishers. The residence of Mr. Gale is one of the handsomest in the city, and but for timely discovery a disastrous fire would have resulted. The damage was nominal.
