Luther College Quintette Give Sacred Concert Here

The Luther College Quintette of Decorah, Iowa, gave a sacred concert Sunday evening to a large audience at the St. Paul Lutheran church.

These five young men are now on a three months' tour through the Northwest. They are wending their way northward having sung in Montana, North Dakota, Iowa and South Dakota. They will also tour Wisconsin and parts of Illinois before their concert season comes to an end.

The personnel of the organization is 1st tenor, Edward W. Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; 2nd tenor, Sigurd J. Ode of Decorah, Iowa; 1st bass, Oscar A. Swee of Wanamingo, Minn.; 2nd bass, Gerhard O. Larsgaard of Minneapolis and pianist, Conrad G. Blegstad of Brandt, S. D. The quartet was at their best in a Latin group of sacred music. In this group O. Domine Jesu Christe by Palestrina brought forth the blend of the organization. The deep notes of the bass and high, clear tones of the tenor displayed excellent shading. O. Lawd Look Down, a negro spiritual, was also a very effective number. The pianissimos were extraordinary.

A quintette number of Mighty Lak' a Rose arranged by Blegstad met with hearty approval and was the outstanding number on the program. Solos by the different individuals were also of high calibre and showed the marked musicianship of the young men.

Four of the men finished their college course this last June and three of them intend to enter the teaching profession. The fourth will enter Luther Theological Seminary at St. Paul this fall. The remaining member has one year left at Luther before he receives his B. A. degree.
