Full Text
Many remarks having been made on the number 45, the following, for the novelty of its humour, we insert, not doubting its drawing a smile from some of our readers.
To the Printer of the St. JAMES's CHRONICLE.
I am an old woman, and my eyes are very weak, but by the help of spectacles I can just make shift to read your merry paper: and the merriest thing I have found in it a long time was the letter in your last, but shall be vastly uneasy unless some of your correspondents will inform me whether or not Mrs. Hunt, by being kissed five and forty times forty five on her wedding night was cured of her blindness. If I should find that was the case I would take a little kissing myself, and would be glad if you would ask the question in some future paper, for the sake of a poor old woman, who should have no objection to taking the medicine, provided the effects were as she expects.
I am, Sir, yours, &c.
