FINDING OF CHARRED BODIES OF CAPT. MUELLER AND WIFE STILL MYSTERY.
District Attorney Claims That Mueller Murdered His Wife. Fired the House and Then Killed Himself.
PRINCETON, Wis., Sept. 27.—The authorities are still seeking today for some clew in the ruins of the Lake Puckaway cottage where the charred bodies of Capt. Robert Mueller and wife were found Saturday.
District Attorney Kelly aroused a storm of protest today by insisting that Mueller murdered his wife, carried her body into the cottage, firing it and then killing himself.
Dr. M. S. Cronin, a famous war surgeon and life long friend of Mueller, declared that these charges are preposterous. To disprove the theory that Mueller soaked his wife's body with kerosene he produced an oil can still filled to the brim with kerosene.
It is known that Mueller had been bothered lately by poachers who were shooting game on his property.
To support the theory of murder Cronin pointed to bullet holes in trees near the cottage.
The investigators are working at the scene while hundreds of curious seekers are standing by.
