Two Wrangell men have been appointed to national American Legion committees according to information received here. The appointments were made recently at Indianapolis, Ind., at a conference of commanders and adjutants of the nation held there recently.
Kenneth Lewis, past commander of the local Post, was appointed to the national membership and post activities committee and Ned Zenger was appointed to the national counter subversive activities committee.
Lewis and Zenger are two out of 16 national appointments made in Southeast Alaska. In all, 48 Alaskans were so honored, the balance appointed to the Westward and Interior, Alaska Department Commander of Anchorage said the appointment of Alaskans "mark a new high in recognition given the Department of Alaska in the high councils of the American Legion."
He added that delegates sent to the conclave were successful in obtaining American Legion reaffirmation of statehood for Alaska.
