Fight For Tickets
By AL MOSES
NEW YORK-(ANP) - Madison Square Garden reminded one of World War I breadlines as fans clamored for prized tickets put on sale here Monday, May 17. The price scale of $10 to $50 has met with popular reception as we predicted it would in our arguments against a top-price similar to the Conn- Louis fiasco.
We reached the Garden box office fighting against the same thing aggregating there since 7 a. m. shop keepers informed us.
Save for Dempsey in boxing, the Joe Louis name has been the "open sesame" in a box office sense for promoters the nation over since 1937. Whether Louis wins or loses his contribution to prizefighting represents the finest any boxer of any race has achieved. I know of clergymen, social leaders, executives high in enterprises affecting the lives of thousands of local colored citizens who are buying ringside seats for themselves and friends for two reasons alone: (a) they want to be there to see the great man who held the heavyweight title longer than any predecessor and defended it as often as the clock ticks, kayo Walcott and thus redeem himself for his poor showing in bout No. 1. (b) If a new king is to be crowned, like most humans they wish to sit in on the wake and be able to tell their children about it in years to come.
We suggest that you buy a $10 seat as there will be plenty of them available and visibility at Yankee stadium will be good from all points. Bring along your binoculars in any event, whether your seat is closeup or long range.
