John H. Pleasants Esq., one of the editors and proprietors of the Richmond Whig, who, for some months past, has not been engaged in the active duties of his office, being called out by some remarks of the Washington Chronicle, expresses fully and frankly his feelings in relation to Mr. Clay, and though in favor of the Sub-Treasury system, his opposition to the course of Mr. Calhoun and the Chronicle. Mr. Pleasants goes for Mr. Clay, as the best candidate that can be fixed on, under the present circumstances of the country, and recommends the union and perseverance of the Whigs in their present opposition to power.
