EAST CAROLINA COLLEGE HAS MARCHING BAND

Swan Quarter and Elizabeth City Students Active in new Organization

Greenville - East Carolina College's marching band will make its first public appearance for the school year Saturday night of this week at a football game played on the campus here between the college Pirates and the Newport News Apprentice School, Herbert L. Carter, director, has announced.

During the past week band members completed their organization and hold their first practices for the school year. Plans have been made for programs at all football games to be played this season in the college stadium and for an appearance in Burlington October 11, when the East Carolina Pirates will meet the Elon team there.

Charles Armstrong of Elizabeth City is president of the East Carolina band for the 1952-1953 term. Other offices are Bill Williams of Swan Quarter, vice president, and Roland Jones of Goldsboro, secretary-treasurer.

Walter Noona of Norfolk, Va., has been chosen as band major.

Five majorettes will participate in programs given by the band. They are Betty Ray Outlaw and Carolyn Johnson of Elizabeth City, who were with the band last season, and Patricia Taylor of Williamston, Hildegarde Roberts of Greenville, and Judy Perry of Morehead City, who joined the group this fall.
