Full Text
A letter from his Excellency Governor Frederici, of Surinam, and its Dependencies, to a gentleman in this town, dated Sept. 10th 1798, says:
"I shall redouble my care, to preserve the tranquility and good order of the interior of the colony;—which to this moment has continued without interruption. You know, that the first and the surest mean is to keep up a sufficient supply of articles of the first necessity;—and 'tis to that end, that I shall continue, let what will happen, to admit and protect American vessels, which bring us those articles.—I write thus positively, to remove from your countrymen, in the present circumstances, all fear on this subject; and to assure them they shall be received and protected, as they ever have been."
