Full Text

An atrocious murder was committed on Sunday last, upon the body of Miss Denton, living about six miles this side of Lancasterville, by a negro man of the neighborhood. Mr. Denton was at church, and the daughter and young girl—were the only persons in the house. The negro entered the piazza where they were sitting, and without any known incitement or provocation, took up a gun loaded with buckshot, and discharged the contents into the head of the unfortunate young woman, who survived but a few moments. He fled immediately, and had not been overtaken by his pursuers when we heard last from the scene. (Camden (S. C.) Journal.
