BRIDGE PLANS REJECTED

War Department Objects to Span Planned for Lower Potomac

The War Department has rejected plans of the Washington-Newport News Short Line for a railroad bridge across the Potomac river between Riverside, Md., and Metomkin Point, Va.

The rejected plans called for a bridge with a pivot draw providing a 200 foot opening in the channel for passage of Potomac river steamers.

The company was informed that a bridge with a draw of the bascule type, providing a vertical clearance of 300 feet, will be permitted.

The company is expected to submit new plans.
