On Slimnastics, TV Program
Fans of John Hill's Slimnastics
TV program will be following the
slenderizing signals of five Boy
Scouts from Troop 89 tomorrow
morning.
The five boys who will appear
on the 9:45 a.m. program are Explorer
Scouts Robert Stinson,
Teddy Taylor and Scouts Douglas
Carter, Leonard Reed and Mike
Barnett.
In addition to demonstrating
and calling exercises, the boys
will discuss the forthcoming
Scout-O-Rama to be held March 9
and 10 at the Merchants and Manufacturers
building at the Fairgrounds.
Scoutmaster Gene Stinson explained
that the purpose of the
Scout participation in the "Slimnastics"
program is to encourage
exercise for improved physical
fitness.
Stinson became concerned
about the problem of physical fitness
when comparative studies of
American and European children
showed American children as being
more than 50 per cent deficient physically
to European children. The study was developed
by two medical doctors at
the request of President Eisenhower.
