GAMBLING IN THE MOUNTAINS.

The Nevada Journal of Friday says:

One who knows descants to us dolefully of the increasing immorality of the people of our goodly city. He tells us that never since 1852 has there been so much and so heavy gambling carried on, or intoxicating liquors drank so liberally as at present. In all ages of the world there have been found enough who look on the dark side of human life and bewail the corruption of the times. But we are certain our informant is not one of these. The evidence he produces and the statistics he has at command are convincing. When business men, lawyers, judges and the common bummer are seen together from daylight till dark, and even till the small hours of the morning engaged in games of chance for the miserable consideration of a ticket in a lottery or a drink of whiskey, and make a regular business of it, there is some reason for repenting the ejaculation of Cicero, O tempora! O mores! which our informant does with gusto. We rather suspect he has been too familiar with bean poker or "Pharoah" of late and perhaps lost.
