BUT DOES NOT KNOW WHICH MAN SHOULD GO WITH IT.
Did you wear a red necktie last Saturday night and call on some young lady in this city? If you did kindly call on the proprietor of the State hotel and set his mind at rest.
"Is this the State hotel? Is Mr. Otcoff there?"
"Otcoff? Spell it."
"I can't spell it. He said his name was Jim Otcoff and he is the nephew of the man who runs the State hotel for he told me so and he wears a red necktie and he called on me Saturday night and I want to tell him something." (All this without a pause.)
"Well. I don't happen to have more than one nephew here and his name isn't Otcoff and he hasn't worn a red necktie since he was born. Some one has worked a game on you."
"I guess he has," was the tearful answer.
The above dialogue was heard over the phone at the State hotel this morning. The young woman was very much in earnest and evidently wanted to find the whereabouts of the young man. But there is no one at the popular hostelry who conforms with the description. There is a man there who is the nephew of the proprietor but he hasn't a red necktie among his personal belongings. There is also a man there who has a red necktie. but he isn't the nephew of anyone as far as is known.
Just what the young lady wanted with Mr. Otcoff. the nephew, she did not say. she had never seen him before and perhaps he had been "joshin" her. But she wants the person in question; and that badly. So if you were out Saturday night with a pretty girl, told her your name was Otcoff and you wore a red necktie, watch out. You may not be the one. there usually are plenty more. but this time it might be you. you know.
