Full Text

The N. York Advocate says, the North and East rivers will be covered with Steamboats but will the public be better served? We think not.—Such will be the rivalry and enterprise in building and fitting boats; such the opposition and competition, that boats and machinery of an inferior character will be got up for the occasion. High steam pressure, running a race, and bursting of boilers, together with innumerable accidents, will, for a time, occur; in the meanwhile, the boats of the Fulton Company, the largest, safest and having the best accommodations, will secure a great portion of patronage.

This decision will also affect the N. York Steam Boat tax.

The N. York North River Steam Boat Company is supposed to have a capital of $600,000.

Quere—Whether the State of New-York, having undertaken to convey property to Robert Fulton, his heirs and assigns, to which, as it now appears, it had no title, is not in justice bound to indemnify them against all loss and harm which has arisen, or may arise, from such undertaking, and from all expences into which they have been led, by reposing a misplaced confidence in its authority.—N.Y. Ev. Post.
