WANT ACTION IN MUNICIPAL BLDG. PROJECT
Sentiment Favors Site At The Corner Of Clarke Avenue And Vine Street COMMITTEE URGED TO GET BACK OF PROJECTS
Recent legislation in Congress has provided the sum of $156,000,000 post office buildings; and $300,000,000 for P. W. A. projects.
A recent meeting of citizens in Pocomoke revealed the almost universal desire for a post office and also for a municipal building, and the procuring of them was left to the Mayor and City Council.
Discussion mainly settled on a municipal building, and, of course, as matters stood, the Council was authorized to select the site for this town's most needed improvement. Mayor Ross stated that options had been taken on two localities one corner Front and Second: the Hoblitzell property: the other, corner Clarke Avenue and Vine Street.
Since that time all effort has been made to obtain the prevailing sentiment as to the two above-mentioned corners. That sentiment seems to reveal, in no uncertain way, that the second site mentioned above, is the better of the two.
Arguments are self evident. It is in the business section, more central, therefore more convenient. For the purpose the building would be used, this site recommends itself very well and the Council would make no mistake in such a choice.
But, and here is a very important phase of the situation--there's no chance of securing either a post office or a municipal building, unless Pocomoke's application is early on the scene. The Government is not going to pass out on a platter money's for local improvement, unless work and plenty of it, is evident.
At present, things seem to be moving slowly; inertia will not accomplish the object Pocomoke is working for and it would be well for Council, Planning Committee and all others who can, to get back of these projects, push, and push hard.
