New Steamboat.— The spirit of enterprise and improvement, which characterizes the age, has induced our Steamboat Company, (although possessing before some of the finest boats on the Sound,) to add a new boat to their establishment, which was put upon the line yesterday, in the place of the Splendid, which was hauled off to repair. The new boat is called the New Haven, and will not disgrace her name, either as a specimen of beautiful architecture or the indispensable faculty of going ahead. She is a fraction over 186 feet in length, 22 feet beam, with a deck sweep of ample dimensions, and the boilers on her guards. For beauty of model and excellence of workmanship in every respect she is not surpassed by any other boat. Her interior is fitted up in the most elegant style, with highly polished pilasters and panels from stem to stern. The ladies cabin is splendidly decorated with silk hangings, &c. and connected with a dressing room on deck, cushioned and carpeted in the most appropriate manner. Her engine is of great power, and her commander, Capt. Stone, courteous in his manners, and attentive to his duties.— With all these accomplishments she promises to be a favorite boat upon our waters. Her speed has not yet been fully tried, but it is believed that no boat will beat her in that respect. A gentleman passenger has handed us his observations of time on her trip yesterday from New York to this place, which was accomplished, from wharf to wharf, in five hours and twenty minutes—viz: From Beekman street Wharf

It is expected she will accomplish the distance between New Haven and New York ordinarily in 5 to 5½ hours, and will thus shorten the usual passage from New York to Hartford about two hours. A great deal of interest has been felt among our citizens in the success of this boat, and it is highly gratifying to find, upon this first trial, that she has answered every expectation of her enterprising proprietors. When our Railroad is constructed, the passage will be made from Hartford to New York in 6½ hours.
