Classes Scheduled To Start On Sept. 23 At High School
Wilmington's off-campus branch of the University of North Carolina has been formally approved by university officials. it was announced here yesterday.
One hundred and seventy-six students have already registered for courses at the branch, which will be located in the New Hanover High school building, it was reported.
With classes tentatively scheduled to start on Sept. 23, D. K. Spencer, coordinator. said yesterday that he will go to Chapel Hill today to discuss final arrangements with the university officials.
The Wilmington branch is one of nine which have been approved in the state, according to Russell M..Grumman, extension service director of the university. The other eight and their present registrations are: Charlotte, 249; Fayetteville, 34; Gastonia, 106; Goldsboro, 43; Greensboro, 34; Hendersonville, 40; Murphy, 52; and Rocky Mount 58.
If the required minimum of 30 students register during the next week at each of the following towns branches will be established there also - Albemarle, Burlington, Burnsville, Durham, Lumberton. Mount Airy, and North Wilkesboro.
