Contracts have been awarded by the U. S. Government for 900 army and navy planes. This is a part of a program to bring America's air force up to 3000 in 1938. Other countries in refusing to join in the suggestion of this country to limit armament may be making a mistake. The United States, if it cares to, and gets started in that direction with half the earnestness that is being evidenced by other countries will make the air navies of other nations look pretty small in comparison. America has a way of doing things by halves. When she starts on a spending spree she puts on a show worthwhile, and if she ever takes up the question of military preparation in earnest she will set some new marks for other nations to shoot at.
