Elmer L. Johnson, Jr., James A. Rush, Lawrence A. Craig and E. H. Turner, from the United States Rubber Company plant at Scottsville, attended the 38th Southern Industrial Relations conference in Blue Ridge, N. C.
Dr. Francis P. Gaines, president of Washington and Lee University, and Dr. Charles J. Schollenberger, director of training, Dan River Mills, Inc., were others from Virginia who attended and took part in the program.
The topic of the conference was "Broadening Understanding, the key to Good Human Relations."
Speakers were Dr. George P. Heaton, minister of Myers Park Baptist church, Charlotte, N. C.; Ernest G. Swigert, president of National Association of Manufacturers, who is also president of Hyster company, Portland, Ore., and J. L. Rosenstein, of Milwaukee, Wis., industrial psychologist and assistant director of the management center at Marquette University.
