NURSES ASSOCIATION TO CONVENE IN HAVRE

M. Annie Leitch of New York, associate executive secretary of the American Nurses' Association, will give "A National Glimpse at Nursing Education" to Montana nurses attending the 1959 state convention in Havre October 8-11.

Miss Leitch also plans to speak at the convention of the Montana State Student Nurses' association, which will be held in conjunction with the MSNA sessions. In her capacity as associate ANA executive secretary, she directs the program for state boards of nurse examiners.

The Havre convention will be presided over by Mrs. Helen Haegele of Helena, who is completing her two-year term as president of the state professional nurses association.

Mrs. Haegele said the Montana convention would feature a study of nursing education and said Miss Leitch was expected to review progress being made on both the national and state levels. She also pointed out recent federal legislation to provide traineeships for registered nurses is recognized as a major step in combatting the current nurse shortage.

In addition to the main business sessions, the convention banquet and several social functions, the convention program also includes annual meetings for the various MSNA sections, each of which has its own specific interest in the field of nursing. Studies of ways in which to improve those particular areas of nursing practice will be made.

Convention chairman is Mrs. Helen Goligoski of Havre and president of the Havre host district is Mrs. Agnes Tighe.

Nurses from all districts of the state association are expected to attend.
