Full Text
Mr. Burch is a man who enjoys in the highest degree—and deservedly, too—the confidence of all who know him—the Governor of the State, his brother legislators, and fellow citizens at large. We are not informed as to the considerations which induced him to decline this distinguished mark of confidence, but presume that the relations existing between himself and a constituency residing remote from the Capitol—who have so often bestowed upon him the most convincing proof of their entire reliance upon his integrity and capability as the custodian of their immediate interests—have constrained him to decline the proffered position.
The Globe speaks truthfully of the estimation in which Mr. Burch is held at home. His constituency will not disapprove of his declining the appointment. The services of such men are too important in the place to which he was elected, not only to the people he immediately represents, but to others who are represented by less of ability and integrity.
