Youth Appointed To West Point

WASHINGTON, D. C.—(NNPA).—Representative Claude I. Bakewell, Republican, of Missouri, has appointed a colored youth to the United States Military Academy and a colored man to the Capitol Police.

His appointee to West Point is Ridgely C. Bennett, Jr., of 3026 Rutger street, St. Louis. The lad is a graduate of Vashon High School, St. Louis, and is at present attending Stowe Teachers College in that city. His father is a chemist in St. Louis. A brother is attending Howard University here.

Young Bennett is the second colored youth to be appointed to West Point from St. Louis. The other was Charles L. Smith who was admitted to the Military Academy July 1, 1944.
