We are assured that the detestable Assassin will be brought this Night to the Conciergerie, and locked up in Montgomerie's Tower, bound in such a Manner as to prevent his being his own Executioner.
Brussels, Jan. 11. On Saturday Evening a Courier arrived here from Paris, with the Account of an Attempt made on the French King's Life the 5th Instant, the Particulars of which are as follow. On the above-mentioned Day the King went from Trianon to Versailles, to visit Madame Victoire. About 6 in the Evening, as his Majesty was stepping into his Coach to return to Trianon, a Man who had concealed himself behind the hind Wheels, rushed forward with his Hat on, made his Way to the King's Person thro' the Guards (one of whom he shoved against the Dauphin) and struck his Majesty on the Right-side; of which however the King only complained by saying, That Man has given me a violent Blow, he must be either mad or drunk. But having perceived that his Hand, which he clapt to his Side, was bloody, he said, I am wounded; seize that Fellow, but don't kill him. His Majesty was immediately carried to his Apartment. The Wound (which from the very first was not thought dangerous) was given with a sharp pointed Knife, which glanced upwards between the fourth and fifth Ribs, and is not of any considerable Depth. And, at the first Dressing, it was even judged that the Cure would be speedy. That Night the King slept an Hour and a Quarter. The Villain who committed this Attempt is named Damien, and is a Native of Arras: The Weapon he made use of was found upon him, and proves to be a common Clap Knife, with two Blades. At first it was feared it might have been poisoned, but he assured the contrary, and the Experiments that have since been made with it, on several Animals, have made good his Assertion. Another French Courier arrived here on Sunday Night, with an Account, that the Wound was so slight, that his Majesty had been able to assist on Saturday Morning at a Council that was held at Versailles.
P A R I S. January 21.
Damien, the regicide, was brought from Versailles to this city the 18th, at 3 in the morning, in a coach, under a strong guard: Orders were previously issued, that no person should stand on the road, or look out a door or window to see him pass, on pain of being fired at by the guards, who had orders for that purpose.--The villain still keeps up a kind of courage, or rather ferocity. By what we hear of him day after day, libertinism and fanaticism ruled him by turns. He was sometimes sunk in the depth of wickedness, and at other times elevated in extasies of devotion.-The prisoners that were in the Bastile, have been removed to Vincennes to make room for those persons that are taken up on Damien's account.
Since that villain's horrid attempt, shoals of seditious pieces and verses, in print and manuscript, have poured in upon us. One or another of them, has been stuck up in almost every publick place. Even the convents have not been spared.-The Jesuits are particularly aimed at. The following words in large characters were stuck on the gates of their colleges.- 'Neighbours, remove, if you would avoid being burnt.' These fathers have since asked a guard, especially in the night time, which will no doubt be granted.

Event Details
On January 5, Damien stabbed the French King while he was entering his coach at Versailles after visiting Madame Victoire. The king was wounded on his right side but remained calm and ordered Damien seized alive. Damien, from Arras, used a non-poisoned clap knife. He was guarded, racked for accomplices, and moved to Paris on January 18 under strict orders. Seditious materials targeting Jesuits circulated afterward.
